What could your snore type say about your health?
Palatal Snoring
Palatal snoring is often caused by the soft palate at the back of the throat. If the soft palate is too loose or long, it can cause the loudest and strongest snoring sounds.
Pharynx Snoring
The pharynx is a flexible, muscular tube located behind the oral cavity. At night, due to the negative pressure created by inhalation, the pharyngeal walls can contract and vibrate.
Tonsillar Snoring
Tonsillar snoring, caused by enlarged tonsils from inflammation as a child, is usually harmless. This type of snoring may be linked to a higher risk of breathing irregularities.
Tongue Snoring
Some snorers have a problem with their tongue sliding back into their throat when they sleep. This makes the airway narrower and creates a slurping snoring sound. This type of snoring can be linked to a higher risk of breathing irregularities.
Epiglottal Snoring
The epiglottis is a piece of tissue located behind the tongue. For some, it can vibrate when they breathe in and cause snoring. This type of snoring may be linked to a higher risk of breathing irregularities.
